I’ve been staring at this text for a few hours now, suddenly unsure of what to write after a month or so thinking about this blog. What is there to say, after all, that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before? Hell, it’s gotten so bad that saying it’s cliche has become the cliche. But I get ahead of myself.
Hi, my name is Evan. I’m 21, a senior set to graduate in the fall, and I really like making video games, as well as long walks on the beach and my girlfriend’s cat and also my girlfriend too if I have time (NOTE TO SELF: Delete this before sharing with her).
I’ve spent the last half-decade learning everything I can about game development. I’ve directed my studies, I’ve done a lot of self-teaching, I’ve presented at conventions, I’ve written like 20 minutes of music (yes, TWENTY WHOLE MINUTES. Be jealous), and, of course, I’ve been studying successful games themselves and what makes them good experiences.
I won’t pretend that I’m able to offer some arcane insight or industry wisdom, after all I still haven’t gotten my first job in the field. However, if you’re interested in seeing what it’s like trying to break into the game industry, you’re more than welcome to watch me try. Maybe you’ve been thinking about starting too and are wondering what goes into it, or maybe you’re an industry veteran chuckling softly as a greenhorn struggles to find his feet. Or, maybe you find my writing somewhat endearing (<3) and you just want to hear me say things (10/10 for vanity there, Evan). Maybe you’re none of those things. I’m… I’m not sure where I was going with this.
Point is, thanks for reading, I hope you have a good time while you’re here, and wish me luck!
P.S. I’ve spent the last few hours trying to upload all of my recent projects, feel free to check them out if you get the chance!
